What are the known issues related to OMN 1.1?
As of December 2006, here is a list of some known issues associated with the OMN 1.1 software:
- Displaying OMN programs on Windows Media network extenders:
OMN programs can be viewed successfully on Windows Media network extenders such as the HP SmartMedia LCD. However, you can only view programs which were downloaded after installation of OMN 1.1.
- Synchronization with TiVo recorders doesn't work:
This functionality will become available with TiVo Desktop 2.4 becomes available in early 2007.
- No write permissions on OMN Deliveries folder:
Occasionally, users may click on items to download, but OMN stops trying to download the program after a few seconds. In addition, the user will notice that the "get item" animated down arrow stops moving. The most likely cause for this behavior is that you do not have write access to the OMN "My Deliveries" folder. To address this issue, perform the following steps: click on the "Settings’” button on the bottom left corner of the OMN client. click on the "Delivery Settings" tab, and 3) find the "Deliveries Folder" on this tab. Click "Browse" and make sure your selected folder is a folder in which you have both read-and-write privileges.
- ActiveX disabled using Internet Explorer 7:
IE7 may disable ActiveX controls at installation which can cause OMN downloads to fail. You can re-enable this by entering the "Tools" menu in Internet Explorer, selecting "Manage Add-Ons" and clicking ‘Enable or Disable Add-Ons.’ In both menus- ‘Add-ons currently loaded in IE’ and ‘Add-ons that run without requiring permission,’ make sure all necessary ActiveX controls are enabled. Especially take note that ‘Secure Delivery’ controls are enabled.
- Browsing www.omn.org with Internet Explorer 7:
IE7 may ask users to install an ActiveX control when browsing www.omn.org or trying to select a program for delivery. This issue has to do with the way IE7 handles ActiveX controls differently from IE6.
- Firewall issues:
Sometimes having your security program’s automatic firewall enabled will prevents OMN client from accessing the OMN Guide or any other connective options. The solution to this is to ensure that the firewall is giving OMN access to network functions, or to temporarily turn the firewall off when using OMN.
- Blank Guide tab:
If your OMN Guide is blank, the issue could be that your Internet Explorer cache is full. To address this problem, try deleting the Temporary Internet Files from within Internet Explorer.
- Occasional errors during uninstallation:
If when attempting to uninstall OMN client you may get an error 2753 or 2318. If this happens, try to run the uninstaller again. If you are still unsuccessful, you can follow the steps outlined here.
- Uninstallation error when Firefox 2.0 is installed:
On Windows, if you try to uninstall OMN 1.0 using the OMN Control Panel AND you have Firefox 2.0 installed, then you may end up in an endless loop in which a window saying “Please close Firefox” appears and will not disappear even if if you close all Firefox windows. This problem does not occur if users upgrade their OMN software to 1.1 (or later), then uninstall OMN. All users should be automatically upgraded to OMN 1.1 by launching OMN and clicking "Upgrade" if an upgrade message appears.
- Windows Vista Support:
OMN 1.1 is not compatible with Windows Vista. We are working on this issue.
- Quicktime 7 needed to play m4v files:
If you've downloaded an m4v file and hear only the audio portion, you may need to upgrade to Quicktime 7.
- Mac client needs to restart before upgrading:
For Mac users, the OMN client may need to be fully closed for an upgrade to occur. To do this, completely close OMN even in the toolbar and than restart it. Upgrade should now commence successfully.
- OMN 'Hangs' if m4v item is selected without QT7:
You may encounter some problems playing m4v format programs on the internal OMN player without QuickTime 7.0 or higher installed. You can download the latest version of QuickTime here.
