Open Media Network Brings Quality Non-Commercial Content to Internet Viewers on TV Screens and Mobile Devices

Palo Alto, CA—January 29, 2007 --Open Media Network (OMN), a non profit organization that brings non-commercial and public broadcasting content to viewers via the Internet, said today that it has released version 1.0 of its service.

OMN offers "media that matters" to the public, providing easy access to previously hard-to-find content created by public broadcasters, educational institutions, non-profits and community-based organizations.  OMN provides free and paid audio and video downloads in HD- or DVD-quality.  It lets viewers watch their programs on their computers or take their personal OMN libraries with them via mobile devices. More information can be found at www.omn.org.

Until today, Internet-downloaded video shown on TV screens has been of poor quality, as the technology used to deliver video over the Internet has been optimized only for small screens, such as an iPod or PC screen.   Open Media Network’s technology brings full-length, brand-name content has been optimized for viewing on HP’s ground-breaking HP MediaSmart TVs.  OMN programs can also be downloaded on a TiVo digital video recorder and viewed on TV sets.

In addition to utilizing VeriSign’s Intelligent Content Delivery Network, OMN utilizes the suite of Windows Media technologies (including Windows Media Rights Manager and Windows Media Player 11) to securely deliver programs. OMN versions are available for Windows XP / 2000 as well as Mac OS X. A Windows Vista-based client is due in Q1 2007.
